The major factor that contributed to feudalism is the decentralization of territories in Europe (Carolingian and Japan). Decentralization resulted to lack of the proper bureaucratic infrastructure required to support the armies (Calvary). The prevailing system also did not offer the means of allocating land to the troops. This was followed by soldier rule in the soldier allocated land which was followed by social, political and economic take over. Overtime, centralized governments lost control over these territories. Feudalism only yielded to another form of rule where there were structures adequate enough to maintain a centralized power, this was the case with European monarchies. Feudalism ensured that there is government in the society by stratifying communitie s. Highly ranked persons act as the leadership while the rest acted as subjects (Hause Maltby, 2004).There was no proper leadership in the society by then. The application of feudalism looked like a solution to the society which made its existence appear like something positive. This greatly contributed towards its spread in Europe.
